The Clayton Furnaces Floodlight Crown Green Bowls Competition took place at Somers Sports & Social Club in Halesowen, West Midlands from 4th September 2009 until the final on the 18th September 2009.
There were 128 entrants all vying for the top prize of £1000 with other prizes of £1,700, making the total money up for grabs of £2,700. Many competitors had travelled many miles to participate, some over 250 miles for the round trip, so it was great the weather was on our side and was indeed, superb for the whole tournament.
With eight qualifying nights and with two qualifiers per night the last sixteen in the Final on 18th was a formidable field.

The finals night saw a crowd of over 400 attend the event from 6.30pm, until the end at 11.45pm. On the night Greg Smith, a young local player from West Bromwich Football Supporters Club was the victor over Gareth Herbert from Kings Heath Park who was runner up. The Cups and prize money was presented to the finalists by Mr Deryk Law, Managing Director of Clayton Furnaces Ltd. who expressed how good the event and standard of play had been.
